Good Media Player with huge storage ..

I purchased this directly from Envisage via their website and saved approximately £20 on the current price shown here.

I bought this as I wanted a solution for playing mkv video files without having to convert or mess around with them - I had many problems getting things to play on my Xbox and eventually became so frustrated I bought one of these units.

My experiences so far have been quite positive, namely :

1. This unit has played everything I have thrown at it and doesn't show any sign of stutter or playback errors. Any issues I have seen have been down to the file and not the player.

2. This particular version has a huge amount of storage (2TB).

3. The remote seems responsive and works well.

4. The user interface was very basic however a firmware update (v3) has made things much better looking and the menu system more responsive, if you purchase one of these make sure you get this update from Sum-vision to get the most out of the player.

5. This recognized my WD Passport drive without any issues via USB and is my main file transfer method.

6. It's small and doesn't take up much space. I have added a picture on the main page showing the WD Passport and a Netgear router sitting on the unit.

Now for some of the bad points :

1. The most annoying thing in my view is the fan noise. It's high pitched and prompted me to look for a replacement - I haven't fitted this yet as I seem to have gotten used to the noise for the time being (or it's quieter now!?) however if this is an issue you may want to think again.

2. The manual that comes with the unit is a joke, written in basic English (or Engrish!) and isn't much use to anyone - However anyone with a little knowhow should be able to set things up without too much hassle. Additionally the Sumvision website isn't the easiest to navigate.

3. File transfer speeds aren't good at all - Maximum for me using wireless (eg. browsing to the mapped network drive via my PC) has been around 3mb/s. However if I use a USB drive to copy directly connected to the unit I get around 30mb/s which isn't too bad if you only need to transfer less than 20-30GB in a sitting.

To conclude, this is a great player - Picture quality is fantastic and it supports DTS and you can plug in a USB DVD player and use it like that if required. It shows up on my home network after mapping the drive (Win 7) and didn't require a great deal of setup time.

There are 2 issues I can think of - the fan noise (which can be replaced - new 30*30*10mm fan is around £10) and transfer speeds if you are copying large amounts of data, for one or two 720p MVK files this isn't such an issue (15gb / 10-15min).

I would get another and / or recommend to a friend.
