HTC Touch 2

Review Date: February 17, 2010
Reviewer: Alan King, Lincs, UK
The Touch 2 was smaller than I expected so it made the phone very comfortable to hold and use. The back cover has a rubberised effect which tends to make it stick to your hand and table tops, very practical in an age of glossy plastic cases!. The urban brown colour stated was a worry before it arrived, but it is actually a very smart graphite type of colour, and not really a true brown in my opinion. Overall the look of the Touch 2 is lovely with only 4 buttons at the bottom of the 2.8 inch screen.

TouchFlo is HTC's front end application which runs very nicely indeed. Very pleasant to look at and offers all the usual applications such as email, messaging, music and settings as scrolling icons at the bottom of the screen. Although the Touch 2 is a resistive screen I did not feel that this was a problem, in fact adding a screen protector appeared to make the resistance screen work even faster! There is however a knack to using the Touch 2 and this requires a little patience at first. All of the TouchFlo applications worked very well especially the messaging application which automatically displays previous messages you sent to contacts as a reminder of your conversations...brilliant! The music player is also really neat, displaying the album artwork and song information. Sound quality was impressive and just flicking the album artwork to change the track was a nice feature. Volume levels can be changed at any time even when the phone powers down which was such a huge issue with other phones I had used. Volume levels do not seem restricted so the maximum volume is very loud!

The HTC Touch 2 runs Windows 6.5 mobile, which runs much better than the previous 6.1 version. The calender application seems pretty similar to the 6.1 version but this is now intergrated with the HTC TouchFlo front end and displays any calender information on the home screen. Mobile office is greatly improved, now you can create documents in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Onenote from new. The downside is that the screen is only in portrait view for all these applications. A stylus is provided with the Touch 2 which I believe was the right choice by HTC. I do use the stylus frequently and do not find it tedious to use.

Synchronising with Office 2003 was painless using Microsoft Activsync and this ran impressively smoothly for me. Updating all my contacts and calender appointments effortlessly...finally very impressed with this version after some real disasters attempting to synchronising with previous windows mobile operating systems.

Other items of note is the Adobe PDF reader, Opera browser, radio and the built in GPS. All the usual applications are present such as MSN, Facebook and Utube and these all work well. Windows Media player ran smoothly and thankfully plays video in landscape mode! Playback of MP4 films was excellent.

With all this software does the HTC Touch 2 actually work as a phone? I can confirm that this is certainly the case with all incoming and outgoing calls being clear and accurate. Battery life is currently around 3-4 days with occasional use of Wifi, calls and applications. The only real negative aspects of the Touch 2 for me is the camera/video which seems to have limited performance, but other than that I am very pleased with the Touch 2.

Overall I highly rate the Touch 2...windows 6.5 is being slated by most of the technology press but I have found it to be generally sturdy and when added to the HTC TouchFlo software the Touch 2 really does deliver impressive applications and technology in a small package and at a very reasonable price.

Reviewer: Dr. Sandra D. Blewitt, London UK
I bought the HTC Touch and will never 'touch' another HTC product.
I've had to send it back for repair 5 times in a year - I'm still waiting for the latest fix!
It promises good applications & indeed the Calendar is good however
(1) the touch facilities on the screen are unsatisfactory. It will slip into another mode or app at the slightest touch, when you try to scroll or hand to another person.
(2) the GPS location is poor - cannot be relied on to tell you where you are within a mile.
(3) Be sure to switch it off completely or if you put it into your handbag it will redial the last number.
(4) Lots of trouble with the basic phone facility - unable to hear or be heard, lack of ring tone etc.

Please note that a small number of customers report an issue with the Now thats what i call music CD's whereby the wrong album and track titles are displayed when uploading or playing the songs on their PC. The audio content on the CD is correct, but the software used displays the details of another CD. Please also note: this is an issue with the software used to play the CD(Usually Nero), and not a manufacturing problem. This is a Macro protection by the manufacturer to combat copying of the material. Customers are encouraged to try playing the disc with a different software package, or on a conventional CD player/Hi-Fi before returning the item.

Product Description

In this DVD spread betting expert and bestselling author Malcolm Pryor exclusively reveals some of his highly successful trading strategies. The focus of the two hour DVD, with its accompanying booklet, is on short term trading using spread bets. Short term in this case defined as trades lasting just a few days. The DVD consists of sixteen video modules, with each group of modules introduced via a short presentation to camera. The first group of modules set out the specific trading principles underlying the DVD under the headings of getting started, styles and timeframes, getting an edge, technical analysis tools, and pullback philosophy. In the second and third groups of modules, two trading strategies are introduced, TDS and T+DS. Each group of modules includes the philosophy behind the strategy, entry, exit and bet size rules, worked examples of the strategy in action, summary statistics of how the strategy performed in three samples, practical issues which arise when trading the strategy and suggestions on learning how to trade it. The final modules offer further practical thoughts on trading the strategies and on implementing the principles of the DVD. This is a must for traders looking to develop their trading and take their spread betting to another level. About the Author Malcolm Pryor is a member of the Society of Technical Analysts in the UK and has been designated a Certified Financial Technician by the International Federation of Technical Analysts. He is a director of a consultancy practice, and is an expert at several games, including bridge where he has held the rank of Grandmaster for over a decade.

Product Description

Michael McIntyre, the comedy sensation of 2009, is back. Michael McIntyre’s meteoric rise to fame took the comedy world by storm last year. He sold out over 100 tour dates around the UK and his first DVD release Michael McIntyre Live & Laughing became the fastest selling debut stand up DVD of all time. Michael sets off on his biggest tour to date taking his new show to arenas around the UK. To be recorded at Wembley Arena later this year, Michael McIntyre – Hello Wembley! will feature 90 minutes of brand new material from the man who has been hailed by both audiences and critics as the best new stand up to emerge in a decade. More about Michael McIntyre: Michael McIntyre doesn’t hang about; he can take claim for having the fastest selling debut stand-up DVD ever with Live & Laughing, along with being the quickest-selling comedian at the Edinburgh Festival packing out 26 consecutive nights. Now he’s started, there appears to be no stopping London-born Michael, who is the rising star of British comedy. His brilliantly engaging delivery and effortless rapport with the audience have led to him to be hailed by audiences and critics as one of the best-stand-up talents currently performing in the UK. Michael observed the world unpaid until 2003 when he began his stand-up comedy journey and was nominated for the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Festival. Since then he has sold out theatres across the country, become a regular face on television and has been nominated for a whole host of prestigious awards. Michael’s ever-increasing fan base has grown via word-of-mouth popularity rather than from a regular weekly TV slot. Michael says: “I don't really do jokes. I just talk about things that I find funny. I tend to laugh at them myself as well because I find them funny. I don't do gags, just observational comedy. I just collect all these stories and try then out and if people laugh I do them again and make them better.” In 2008, Michael won Best Headliner at the Chortle Awards and was nominated in the same category the previous year. Michael proved he’d earned his place as one of the country’s most popular comedians when he was nominated in the Best Live Stand-Up Performer category alongside Alan Carr and Russell Brand. Michael has twice hosted the popular BBC show Live at the Apollo and performed for Prince Charles on his 60th Birthday on ITV’s We Are Most Amused as well as well as the Royal Variety Performance. Consequently, he’s now on first name terms with his Royal Highness, Prince Charles. During the past year Michael’s meteoric rise to fame has seen him play just under 100 sold-out dates throughout the UK including five sell-out nights at London’s Hammersmith Apollo. In June, 2009, Michael is hosting the BBC prime-time show Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. In September, 2009, Michael starts his arena tour across the UK including three nights at the 02 in London. Product Description

J.J. Abrams' 2009 feature film was billed as "not your father's Star Trek," but your father will probably love it anyway. And what's not to love? It has enough action, emotional impact, humor, and sheer fun for any moviegoer, and Trekkers will enjoy plenty of insider references and a cast that seems ideally suited to portray the characters we know they'll become later. Both a prequel and a reboot, Star Trek introduces us to James T. Kirk (Chris Pine of The Princess Diaries 2), a sharp but aimless young man who's prodded by a Starfleet captain, Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood), to enlist and make a difference. At the Academy, Kirk runs afoul of a Vulcan commander named Spock (Zachary Quinto of Heroes), but their conflict has to take a back seat when Starfleet, including its new ship, the Enterprise, has to answer an emergency call from Vulcan. What follows is a stirring tale of genocide and revenge launched by a Romulan (Eric Bana) with a particular interest in Spock, and we get to see the familiar crew come together, including McCoy (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Sulu (John Cho), Chekhov (Anton Yelchin), and Scottie (Simon Pegg).
The action and visuals make for a spectacular big-screen movie, though the plot by Abrams and his writers, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (who worked together on Transformers and with Abrams on Alias and Mission Impossible III), and his producers (fellow Losties Damon Lindeloff and Bryan Burk) can be a bit of a mind-bender (no surprise there for Lost fans). Hardcore fans with a bone to pick may find faults, but resistance is futile when you can watch Kirk take on the Kobayashi Maru scenario or hear McCoy bark, "Damnit, man, I'm a doctor, not a physicist!" An appearance by Leonard Nimoy and hearing the late Majel Barrett Roddenberry as the voice of the computer simply sweeten the pot. Now comes the hard part: waiting for some sequels to this terrific prequel. --David Horiuchi
